Digital Editions, Databases and Primary Literature

This sections provides visitors with a selection of Open Access resources belonging to the so-called primary literature: the classics of the philosophical tradition on which thinking has to constantly feed itself, even in times when the historical dimension of philosophical problems is unfortunately often neglected.

There are already several archives that collect resources in Open Access, such as the excellent Internet Archive. However, our idea is to present only a selection of resources of high scientific quality that can be immediately used for research and teaching. The selection presents works in different languages, with references to the pages where the resources are located, or in some cases the full texts of the works. They are organized in two sections. The first collects the references of Open Access corpora and databases, while the second gathers monographs or digital editions of single works.

The list is not complete but constantly updated. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to report resources that should be mentioned here.

Open Access peer reviewed scholarly works

Very often, bibliographic researches are difficult not because of scarcity but, on the contrary, because of an excess of results.  In particular, scholars are often confronted with freely accessible contributions whose scientific quality is in no way certified. This can make them unsure of whether such contributions can be used in research or teaching activities.  The purpose of this section is to give the scholar quick and easy access to all open access publications - both monographic works and papers - on philosophical topics. Therefore, only works in different languages that have been peer reviewed are included here.  By harvesting also small national archives of recognized quality but not integrated in usual aggregators, we aim to give visibility to resources otherwise difficult to discover and contribute to multilingualism in philosophy.

Aggregated Resources

We are collecting metadata of Open Access peer-reviewed resources from the following repositories:

  • Archivio Marini Open access archive for political and social sciences
  • Post-filosofie Rivista di pratiche filosofiche e scienze umane
  • DOAB Directory of Open Access Books
  • DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals

If you would like to report other sources of high quality open access philosophical publications that should be included here, please do not hesitate to contact us!
